Skytron partners with Strata Solar in the United States

As the amount of solar PV deployed globally grows to over 200 GW and PV rises to meet 1% of global power demand, approaches to operating and maintaining all of these assets become more and more sophisticated.

At the core of operations and maintenance (O&M) is determining what is actually going on at these projects, which is where monitoring solutions come in. On Thursday, Skytron announced that it has partnered with Strata Solar to provide its monitoring and control solutions to nearly 200 solar PV projects in the United States by the middle of this year, including both already existing plants and projects under development.

The new and existing projects to be equipped will range in capacity from 1 MW to 80 MW, for a total capacity of more than 1.4 GW.

Strata has already equipped 535 MW of its PV projects with Skytron's PVGuard supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software, which the company says is the heart of its solution. Additionally, Strata plans to put PVGuard and its skylog Data Logger System on 165 MW of new PV plants.

“Our initial goal was to optimize our existing plants, which we successfully managed with the support of skytron energy's SCADA system,” said Strata Solar CEO Markus Wilhelm in press statement. “We will now continue to integrate the system into our rapidly expanding portfolio of new plants and offer it to our partners as part of our developing O&M service portfolio.”

Skytron was acquired by First Solar, as first announced in June 2014. At the time it was the fourth-largest PV monitoring firm globally, and currently has monitoring and control solutions installed on more than 1,000 PV plants with a total capacity of 6.5 GW.
