China-based PV inverter supplier Sungrow will establish a new factory in Bangalore, India, with an annual production capacity of 3GW in central and string inverters.

The new facility will be launched in the second half of this year and will be the first Sungrow factory situated outside China.

Sungrow shipped more than 16.5GW of PV inverters worldwide last year, an increase of over 48% from 2016. Demands from India, the US, Europe, Japan, and other APAC countries drove much of the growth. The company was the number one supplier of inverters to India in Q4 2017, with a 27% market share, according to analysis from consultancy firm Bridge to India.

"Sungrow is always committed to optimizing all kinds of resources to better meet our customers' needs. With our same level of unmatched manufacturing and operational capabilities, the addition of a new factory in India will significantly enhance our delivery capability locally and elsewhere in the world," said professor Renxian Cao, chairman of Sungrow.

The firm is one of the biggest proponents of using string inverters in the utility-scale segment, a technology that is gaining market share across India.
