Canadian Solar adds 22.9 MW to its UK portfolio

Canadian Solar, the vertically integrated solar company from China, has this week 'energized' five solar plants in the U.K., adding a total of 22.9 MW to its PV portfolio in the country, which now stands at 63.1 MW.

Three of the new solar plants – Royston Solar Park, Wick Road Solar Park and Pant-Y-Moch Solar Park – are being developed under community-backed schemes, with the community component comprising 12.5 MW. This portion of their power capability will be connected to the grid in the first half of this year and will enable community investors to benefit from the energy they generate.

However, from these three solar farms Canadian Solar has already connected 14.7 MW of commercial capacity, brought online in the fourth quarter of 2015, the company confirmed in a statement.

A further 8.2 MW of solar capacity was connected under the Renewable Obligation Certificate (ROC) program at two other solar plants – Long Meadow Solar Farm and Slade Solar Farm – making up a total of 22.9 MW of capacity recently added to the U.K. grid.
